Life HD™

Posted by Jamie Dixon on Oct 13, 2008 in Articles

There’s been a lot of hype recently by various different companies promoting the next level of television experience, namely, HD TV or High Definition Television.

When I first head about HD TV I thought it was a whole load of hoo har. What difference could it really make to my viewing experience? Anyway, I liked the way my TV showed me pictures. They were clear, more than watchable and pretty damn good quality. What possible benefit could this new fangled idea of HD TV ever have for me?

A light spell

Posted by Jamie Dixon on Oct 11, 2008 in Articles

Today I’d like to share with you something I saw at the recent Evening With Richard Bandler in London on the 9th October and have you play around with some ideas to see what we can come up with.

What I’m sharing with you today is not necessarily what Richard was doing however it’s something I saw. Whether I saw what wasn’t there or whether I picked up a small amount of something else I’m not sure, but this was part of my experience and I’ve had a lot of fun playing with it and having some friend of mine give it a go too with excellent results.

Setting it up for Plausibility

Posted by Jamie Dixon on Oct 10, 2008 in Articles

Two men are approaching each other on a sidewalk. Both are dragging their right foot as they walk. As they meet, one man looks at the other knowingly, points to his foot and says, Vietnam, 1969.”
The other points his thumb behind him and says, “Dog crap, 20 feet back.”

As with many of the things we find ourselves discussing either here or in the NLP community at large, new scientist has today posted an article about our ability to put-stuff-in-sets inside our heads.

This isn’t exactly a new discovery and in maths, set theory is a concept that was formalised some time in the 1870s however I’m also pretty sure it existed some time before that too.

On Keeping It Easy

Posted by Jamie Dixon on Oct 8, 2008 in Articles

As I read the title of this post to myself an image of a group of young street kids popped into my head with the phrase “keep it eee zzeee bro”.

Now one of the things I’ve noticed recently with the work of some remarkable people is their ability to keep things really easy.

On Not Knowing

Posted by Jamie Dixon on Oct 7, 2008 in Articles

While I was travelling to the office this morning I got thinking about what it was I was going to write about today. A couple of topics crossed my mind but they just didn’t feel like the thing I wanted to write about and my gut instinct was telling me that I probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much if I worked it that way.

On Stopping Yourself Stopping Yourself

Posted by Jamie Dixon on Oct 7, 2008 in Articles

“You’re doing WHAT ?!?!?!”

Was the first sentence out of her mouth after I told her I had a Salsa lesson booked in for this week.

“You can’t do that…What’s wrong with you?”

I wasn’t entirely sure where the conversation was going at this point but I had a good idea.

On Smiling Back

Posted by Jamie Dixon on Oct 7, 2008 in Articles

I remember walking down the street on my way to work one time during Autumn. The sun was shining through the trees, the leaves were brown and piled up by the side of the pavement, there was a nice chill to the air that created a steam on my breath and there was a sense of contentment around me that made life even more enjoyable.

On Making Things More Fun

Posted by Jamie Dixon on Oct 7, 2008 in Articles

It’s 8:15am on a Monday morning and I’m standing on the train bound for Paddington. From there I’m going to board a London underground service going right into the heart of the business district.

The day is going well so far. There’s not too many people on the train, the train came on time, the walk to the station was a pleasant one and to top it off, we’ve not had any emergency stops or random slow-downs the whole time.

Time please gentlemen

Posted by Jamie Dixon on Apr 19, 2006 in Articles

Time…. When a clock ticks, and Time…..When inside moves differently than outside.

Since before the days of Einstein, time has been one of those topics that many have pondered over, both in terms of its relativity to external on goings, and in its internal form, relative to our perceptions.

Just the other day I woke up…I reached over for my alarm clock, and noted that I had 15 minutes to go before it was due to go off. Placing the clock back in its place, and rolling over, hoping for a few fleeting moments more sleep, I drifted off, wondering how many breaths I could take, before….

And I stood in the woods, not really sure how I’d got there, or what I was supposed to be doing, but I knew I was there, and I knew I was supposed to be there.

I could hear other sounds around me, I could smell the beautiful fresh air and the scent of the woods, and I could see all around me, were opportunities, and marvellous things to be enjoyed.

There were other people around, and we talked about this, and that, walked together, lived together, breathed together, and knew one another in ways deeper than most friends might know one another.

We spent days, maybe years knowing one another and being a part of a higher and deeper space and time, disappeared.

As I rolled over, the sun blazing into my eyes, feeling the soft comfort of the sheets and the quilt, I reached over for my alarm clock and noted… 10 minutes to go before it will be time to get up.

Inside the local supermarket was really quite busy considering what day it was. I had so much stuff to buy. It was almost like a race. The timer was counting down faster than I’d hoped, and as closing time approached, I knew I had to run if I was going to get all the things I wanted.

Like supermarket sweep, running through the isles, grabbing each item and ticking it off the list as I went. Moving extra fast through the chilly frozen food section, making sure to get each and every item without conscious awareness for who might be in the way… Move out…I’m coming through.

Driving home, wondering whether or not I’d paid for what I’d bought, and curious about when I’d got myself this nice new sports car, I opened my eyes, still doing 60 miles per hour, and checked my alarm clock… 8 minutes to go until it will be time to wake up.

I blinked…..the computer screen didn’t quite look the same as it does usually, but then I haven’t got time to spend pondering over whether or not I can see it clearly. I have problems to solve, people to call, and… I must make time to get some nice food from the super market for dinner.

Setting about each puzzle to be solved, pondering, curious about what it was meant to mean… aha…solved…. Tick that one off the list.

A fully days work….all is in order, and I’m happy. I revel in the feeling of success and pride. What a wonderful day.

It’s bright though, not much I can see… Better check my alarm clock…2 minutes until its time to wake up.

I can close your eyes for 2 minutes and still be fully aware of knowing I need to listen out for my alarm…cant I?

I don’t hear it ticking. I’ll just wait. Soon enough it’ll be time, wont it?

I think it’s broken, something’s not right, it should… tick, tick, tick….oh.

1 minute to go and I think its time to wake up now. Perhaps I’ll spend this time stretching, have a yawn, and get ready for something fascinating.

They always say, Time can fly….and they also say, that having fun is the cause.

I wonder whether….Time would fly, too another time, or space, and simply stop…..just for a moment…..to really enjoy what’s on offer.
